Part one / Discarded In a decaying future, survival has left little room for kindness. Mel, a solitary mechanic, spends his days scavenging for parts among the city’s rusted ruins. When he witnesses a damaged robot dog being abused and thrown onto a scrap heap, he stops to help. With one leg hanging by wires and its systems barely functioning, the frightened dog watches him approach. Mel places it in his cart and continues through streets crowded with broken machines and people struggling to survive. As they make their way toward the waterfront, small moments of tenderness offer the dog a reason to trust again. For a man accustomed to being alone, bringing home one more broken machine may change more than he expects.
