Lyra leaves Grand Hall with Voss’s provisional mark and follows the south arch toward the lower wing. Reth trails behind after Celeste orders him back, but Lyra refuses to treat him as her protector. The arch is too narrow for her injured crystal wings, forcing Reth to show her how to pass without scraping them. In the lower dormitory, Soren clears a bed route and Azael offers a locker key. Lyra sees students who also carry difficult marks and private shame. She accepts the key, not Reth’s apology, and chooses a temporary bed in the lower wing for one night.
