Begu ganjang, literally meaning “long ghost,” is a supernatural being or evil spirit in the traditional beliefs and mythology of the Batak people of North Sumatra, Indonesia. It is depicted as a towering figure that can grow even longer, with long hair, and is often associated with black magic by its owner. According to Batak ancestral stories, begu ganjang was originally kept to protect fields, gardens, or harvests from thieves and disturbances. Over time, this belief was often misused for wealth-seeking rituals or as a form of curse magic intended to harm enemies and rivals.
